Charge Your Tesla At Hyatt

Posted at 06:58, 2007-Sep-2

We know about the EV1 - General Motors' first battery-powered vehicle. We also know that this electric car is good for the environment as it does not produce any greenhouse gases owing to the fact that it does not burn any petroleum producta. Unfortunately, the car was never a success and the project was discontinued in 1999 with only 1,117 units ever produced for the car buying public. But while one electric car became extinct, another one made its presence felt. And that is the Tesla Roadster.

Let me give you just a background on this awe-inspiring, rubber-burning, head-turning, eco-friendly roadster. The Tesla Roadster, according to the best information source on the Web, Wikipedia, is a 'fully electric sports car'. Sounds contradicting, right? We have always imagined electric cars as weird-looking cars with a slow acceleration and a not so good top speed. But the Tesla Roadster broke that mold. According to the makers of this roadster, it can reach speeds of 60 miles per hour from a standstill in just four seconds. Not bad for an electric car, huh?

But just like FFVs or flex-fuel vehicles, there are some drawbacks to the Tesla Roadster. As you already know, we have a shortage of refilling stations that offers ethanol to motorists driving flex-fuel cars. That is also the case with the Tesla Roadster - there are a limited number of charging stations. But that problem may be solved in the very near future if Hyatt's current project become a success.

Recently, it was reported that Hyatt installed three Tesla charging stations on selected hotels. For Tesla owners, the Hyatt hotels at Fisherman's Wharf, Sacramento, and Incline Village are ready to cater charging services for their electric roadsters. As Jordan Meisner, the senior vice president for Hyatt, puts it: "The kind of customer who would buy a Tesla and stay at a Hyatt is one and the same."

Although it seems that the three charging stations can be considered as a step forward albeit a small one, one should consider that this is just the beginning. If the three charging stations at the three selected Hyatt hotels became a success, one can expect that the management of the world-renowned hotel to put more charging stations on their hotels. Let us just hope that these charging stations for the Tesla Roadster will be emulated by other automakers.

Toyota, Nissan and General Motors are on the forefront of the electric vehicle for the masses revolution and it would be really great for the environment and their consumers if they will install charging stations around the country when they mass produce their electric vehicles.
